No âmbito do Programa Erasmus+, iniciámos esta experiência internacional com a partida do Porto, no sábado, às 00h35, enfrentando um aeroporto estranhamente deserto, rumo a Atenas, capital da Grécia, cidade marcada pela sua riqueza histórica, cultural e arquitetónica.

    No domingo, após a chegada, deslocamo-nos para o B4B 365 Hotel Athens, onde efetuámos o check-in e organizámos os nossos objetos pessoais. Depois de um breve momento de descanso, saímos para iniciar a descoberta da cidade e absorver a atmosfera única que caracteriza Atenas.

    O primeiro desafio foi compreender os sinais e as placas dos transportes públicos em grego, o que nos levou a alguns percursos em sentido contrário! Abençoada tecnologia que nos permite ter o Google Maps a funcionar por nós!

    A nossa primeira visita incidiu sobre a imponente Acrópole de Atenas, um dos mais emblemáticos símbolos da civilização grega antiga. Ao longo da visita, tivemos a oportunidade de contemplar monumentos de extraordinário valor histórico e patrimonial, como o majestoso Parténon, dedicado à deusa Atena, o elegante Erecteion, o impressionante Odeão de Herodes Ático e o histórico Teatro de Dioniso, considerados marcos fundamentais da cultura e do teatro clássico.

    Posteriormente, realizámos um agradável passeio pela vibrante zona de Monastiraki, uma das áreas mais movimentadas e procuradas por turistas, conhecida pela sua autenticidade, dinamismo e forte identidade cultural. Ao longo das ruas, observámos inúmeros vendedores ambulantes e pequenas lojas tradicionais, onde é possível adquirir lembranças típicas da Grécia, peças de artesanato, bijutaria, artigos em couro, sandálias gregas, ímanes, postais, especiarias, azeites, doces tradicionais e diversos produtos locais que refletem a cultura e a tradição helénica.

    Durante o almoço, no restaurante “Theta Athens”, tivemos a oportunidade de degustar algumas especialidades tradicionais da gastronomia grega, nomeadamente o célebre molho tzatziki, acompanhado de pão pita e legumes grelhados, numa verdadeira experiência de sabores mediterrânicos.

    Ao longo deste primeiro dia, começámos igualmente a aprender algumas expressões básicas do quotidiano, como  “Kaliméra” (Bom dia) e “Kalinýchta” (Boa noite), o que contribuiu para uma integração mais próxima e enriquecedora na cultura local e para uma melhor comunicação com os habitantes.

    Concluímos este primeiro dia com um enorme sentimento de satisfação e entusiasmo. Apesar do cansaço acumulado da viagem e da intensidade das visitas realizadas, foi um dia verdadeiramente inesquecível, repleto de descobertas, aprendizagens e momentos enriquecedores que nos permitiram contactar de forma mais próxima com a história, a cultura e as tradições gregas.

    Within the scope of the Erasmus+ Programme, we began this international experience by departing from Porto on Saturday at 00:35, facing a strangely deserted airport, heading towards Athens, the capital of Greece, a city marked by its historical, cultural, and architectural richness.

    On Sunday, after arriving, we headed to the B4B 365 Hotel Athens, where we checked in and organised our personal belongings. After a brief moment of rest, we went out to begin discovering the city and absorbing the unique atmosphere that characterises Athens.

    The first challenge was understanding the signs and public transport information written in Greek, which led us to a few routes in the wrong direction! Blessed technology that allows Google Maps to work for us!

    Our first visit focused on the imposing Acropolis of Athens, one of the most emblematic symbols of ancient Greek civilisation. Throughout the visit, we had the opportunity to contemplate monuments of extraordinary historical and heritage value, such as the majestic Parthenon, dedicated to the goddess Athena, the elegant Erechtheion, the impressive Odeon of Herodes Atticus, and the historic Theatre of Dionysus, all considered fundamental landmarks of classical culture and theatre.

    Later, we enjoyed a pleasant walk through the vibrant area of Monastiraki, one of the busiest and most sought-after areas by tourists, known for its authenticity, dynamism, and strong cultural identity. Along the streets, we observed countless street vendors and small traditional shops where it is possible to buy typical Greek souvenirs, handicrafts, jewellery, leather goods, Greek sandals, magnets, postcards, spices, olive oils, traditional sweets, and various local products that reflect Hellenic culture and tradition.

    During lunch at the restaurant “Theta Athens”, we had the opportunity to taste some traditional specialties of Greek gastronomy, namely the famous tzatziki sauce accompanied by pita bread and grilled vegetables, in a true Mediterranean culinary experience.

    Throughout this first day, we also began learning some basic everyday expressions, such as “Καλημέρα” (Good morning) and “Καληνύχτα” (Good night), which contributed to a closer and more enriching integration into the local culture and to better communication with the local people.

    We concluded this first day with an enormous feeling of satisfaction and enthusiasm. Despite the accumulated tiredness from the journey and the intensity of the visits, it was a truly unforgettable day, filled with discoveries, learning experiences, and enriching moments that allowed us to connect more closely with Greek history, culture, and traditions.
